The white moderate truly is the biggest adversary of social progress. In the name of being a “realist”/ neutral or objective, they uphold the oppressive status quo. They erroneously equate the actions of those that want to dismantle systems of oppression for their own liberation with the actions of those that want to uphold oppressive systems that they benefit from, and the white moderate spends most of their energy critiquing change makers than the very oppressive systems we aim to change.
Their favorite tactics are to correct grammatical errors in arguments and claim that one’s arguments are unsubstantiated without ever really challenging the argument itself, unless it is to invoke the same old tired out stereotypes that have been used to justify oppression in the first place.
While claiming otherwise, they merely serve to derail movements aimed at social change, re-center the perspective of the oppressor, and uphold the status quo all in the name of “objectivity” (a.k.a. the white supremacist, heteronormative, cis-ist patriarchal point of view).
And the general public nods their heads in agreement as they applaud the white moderate on his supposed “level-headedness.”
